Stop censorship of Tamils sovereignty!

Stop censorship of Tamils sovereignty!

Stop censorship of Tamils sovereignty!

Over the years social media censorship has become a way to control and restrict freedom of speech, expression and thought!

For the Eelam Tamil community, social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube among others, have been used to voice the injustices caused by the Sri Lankan State and International communities while the Eelam people struggled for sovereignty. These same platforms although projected to socially connect us, contribute to the disconnection of the Tamil movement towards justice and independence through censorship. Social media censorship policies further contribute to diminish the voices of the Tamil people. This petition is a call for action by the international community to end the censorship of Eelam and Tamil Nationalism.

The Tamils on the island of Sri Lanka have been subject to decades of ongoing structural and systemic genocide and oppression since independence from the colonial grips of the British in 1948. To date, the ongoing oppression, cultural/ethnic genocide and marginalization of the Tamil people, their identity and right to culture and traditions has been a platform of “nation building” by the Sri Lankan state, government and the Sinhalese/Buddhist extremist on the island of Sri Lanka and around the world.

Most Tamil Eelam and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) related pages explored the structural and social mechanisms that were established by Tamils in stablishing their rights for self-determination. They do not promote hate or violence. Rather they promote resistance to the oppression by Sri Lankan state. Tamils are fighting for their human rights and their right to their own land since 1948. They fought for more than 30 years peacefully and in a democratic way. After loss of patience due to no positive outcome of the Sri Lankan, Tamils resorted to armed rebellion. A position that had to be taken resulting complete disregard of the Tamil voices by the Sri Lankan state. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) are freedom fighters, not a terrorist organisation as claimed by Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. The LTTE developed various civil structures for the welfare of Tamils in Tamil Eelam. They also secured the land from atrocities committed by the Sri Lankan state and restored peace in 2002 and established the de facto state of Tamil Eelam.

Images, videos, and social media accounts that share the content of the LTTE and the de facto state of Tamil Eelam do not promote hate or violence. They promote the Tamil Eelam liberation struggle as well as the national army of the Eelam people. Censorship of the identity of the Tamil People and the Tamil struggle for the sovereign state further discounts the experiences and suffering of the Tamil people. The distribution of these images and knowledge is to teach the fore coming Tamil children their history and the struggles for independence by their ancestors. To teach them about the Tamil movement and the de facto state of Tamil Eelam’s contribution to Tamil identity and independence.

We reject Sri Lankan Identity! We are Eelam Tamils! We want Tamil Eelam!

தமிழரின் தாகம் தமிழீழ தாயகம்!
